The beauty of the Hawaiian Island of Kauai enfolds you as you leave the airport for your Hawaii beach house. You drive towards the north shore, with green, lush mountains on your left, and the Pacific Ocean in shades of turquoise and ultramarine on your right. After you pass Princeville and its supermarket, shops, restaurants, hotels, golf and tennis courses, stop at the lookout over Hanalei Valley, where silver waterfalls stream down sheer cliffs and picturesque taro patches crisscross the valley floor. After you descend into the valley and cross over the first bridge, you will enter the quaint little town itself. If you have forgotten to buy groceries, you will find another market along with a post office, tempting shops and restaurants. Beyond Hanalei, each little one-way bridge leaves civilization further behind.

About a mile beyond the last village, Wainiha, you will find Hale Kilo I’a, “the house where you watch fish,” on a sand road by the beach. This is the Hawaii beach accommodation of your dreams. The house is still owned by the family of artist and Academy Award winning art director Tambi Larsen. Prints of some of his art hang on the walls of the Hale Kilo I'a. We have also made samples of his drawings available on this page, where you can download them for use as desktop wallpaper and computer backgrounds. Because many of the places he drew are now gone, the Kauai Historical Society is preparing to publish a book of his 100 drawings.
